Metadata apart from data
A master issues sequence numbers and coordinates; chunk servers hold replicated vault data. Primary replication keeps writes ordered across replicas.
Route around the dead, catch up the returning
Heartbeats with a 6-second timeout route reads away from failed replicas. A restarted replica replays the operations it missed from the master’s write-ahead log.
